Step 1: Apply with a California Issuing Agency.
Begin by submitting your CCW application to a California county sheriff’s office or police department that allows online CCW training. Not all agencies accept online CCW training, verify eligibility before applying.  Under the Order, residents of U.S. states and territories other than California will be eligible to apply for a California CCW license under Penal Code sections 26150 through 26235 only if they are both.

3. Gun Owners of California (GOC)
4. Second Amendment Foundation
Not otherwise prohibited from possessing firearms under federal or California law.
Once your application is submitted await initial approval from the issuing agency.


Step 2: Receive Approval to Enroll in Training. 
Once the agency has pre-approved your application, they will notify you in writing, that you can proceed with CCW training from there approved vendor list, this step is mandatory before taking any certified CCW course.

Step 3: Complete Your 16-Hour Online CCW Course.
Enroll in and complete a California DOJ-compliant 16-hour online training course. The course includes safety instruction, legal education, and situational awareness. You must pass the chapter exams and the final exam with an 80% passing score and print your training certificate upon completion.

Step 4: Schedule and Pass Your Live- Fire Qualification.
Coordinate with a certified firearms instructor or range to conduct your live-fire shooting qualification. You must demonstrate safe handling and shooting proficiency with the approved firearm(s) that will be listed on your permit.

Step 5: Submit Final Documents and Get Your Permit.
After completing your online training and live fire qualifications, gather all required documents: Online training certificate, proof of live fire qualification, and any additional forms requested by the issuing agency.  Submit to the agency you originally applied with. Once reviewed and approved, you will be issued your
California Resident or Non-Resident CCW permit.

Tailored for out-of-state applicants seeking their first concealed carry permit.  Agency approval must be authorized prior to taking this course.  Live-fire qualification is a mandatory training requirement and is not included in this online course. California Resident CCW– Initial Issuance

Designed for California residents applying for their first concealed carry license. Agency approval must be authorized prior to taking this course. Live-fire qualification is a mandatory training requirement and is not included in this online course. Please refer to our course schedule for available dates and times.

For current California CCW holders seeking to renew their permit.  Agency approval must be authorized prior to taking this course. The course is divided into sections with instructional lessons, follow ed by quizzes and a comprehensive Final Exam. You can start, pause, and resume at your convenience. All lectures or reading assignments must be completed to progress. You must complete this course to receive your certificate.
